Cameras Becoming Ubiquitous Camera

According to the PowerPoint presentation for punditry 101 (theory of convergence), I should be carrying only one gadget. My cell phone should work as my phone, camera and camcorder, PDA / computer, music and video player, FM radio, game console, GPS, pager / instant messenger, watch and so on. And it would, to some extent, although I might need to make some extra batteries.

But look around – or simply turn your pockets and pack up your gadgets – and you might be surprised. The number of gadgets do not go down, and we all buy more of them. It is true that fashions and technological change. However, when we could have stopped buying cameras, cassette players, MiniDisc recorders, CD players, laptops and PDAs, we started to buy other things instead.

I just noticed that I now carry four cameras when I travel through meetings, conferences, interviews, etc.. I used to wear three, even when they were all loaded with film. The fourth is in the lid of my laptop. This prompted me to wonder how much I need gadgets to carry, and how I’m going to have cameras in 2020.

A quick check revealed a gadget SLR digital compact camera, a camera phone, an Edirol digital recorder, a laptop, a broadband dongle, MP3 player with headphones, and a watch. This does not seem excessive. I could also have had a voice recorder, video recorder as an HD Flip, an eBook reader like the Kindle, a handheld game player / video as the Sony PlayStation Portable, a portable CD or MiniDisc player , a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and a DAB radio (ho ho). In fact, I used to make some of those shortcomings, including a Dell Axim and transparent Game Boy Tetris running.
